While most people think that a Disney Cruise is for families only, you shouldn’t. Disney goes out of their way on both the ships and on Castaway Cay to provide plenty of adult only areas, entertainment and activities. While most of the photos you see of Castaway Cay are of the overly crowded family beach, there is also a remote stretch of beach where only adults are allowed (18+). Serenity Bay is a fantastic place to spend a day, or more, if you are lucky.
Serenity Bay is located about a mile away from the Castaway Cay family beach, and is a pristine stretch of beach exclusively for adults. Access is either by foot, or a convenient shuttle that runs from the family beach down a deserted air strip to the entrance of Serenity Bay.
So, what is there to do at Serenity Bay?
- You can soak up the sun or relax in the shade of an umbrella on comfortable lounge chairs or two-person hammocks that dot the beach.
- Premium private cabanas spoil you with the luxury of a deluxe beach resort.
- You can enjoy a therapeutic massage at a massage cabana overlooking the ocean or participate in a yoga class on the beach, just steps away from the crystal clear water.
- There is no need to head back to the family beach for refreshment – a delectable lunch buffet, Bahamian specialty drinks, beer and mixed drinks are served at the nearby Castaway Air Bar.
One note on Serenity Bay. If you plan on renting a tube or float, there is a small shack, The Windsock Hut, where you can rent floats and the like, no need to make the trek back to the family beach. Also saves a bit of embarrassment of carrying your float tubes on the shuttle. If you want to rent snorkel equipment, that will have to be done back near the family beach at either Flippers n Floats or Gil’s Fins and Boats.
Also, while the Castaway Air Bar may look small, the food available there (complimentary) is much better than over by the family beach. They serve fewer people, and usually offer more options, including steak, as well as a wider drink option.
I hope you enjoy Serenity Bay as much as I do, I can’t wait to get back there soon.
